A TOWER OF LIVING ENERGY 源之塔
台灣塔的使命-
公眾看見城市所著稱之生命能量
台灣是熱情，是勤奮，是充滿無限活力的。
台灣塔矗立於此，讚頌生命能量。
持續鼓舞著台灣人民，提醒台灣人民他們有潛力創造生命能量。
台灣塔之設計將展示：
台灣過往的發展歷程、目前的發展現況及對未來低碳生活和能源技術的研發願景。
台灣塔將會是一個清新、極具創意的育教娛樂空間。
它將提供大眾不同性質的瞭望觀景及吸引力，其中亦包含較嚴肅屬性的研究實驗設
施。
整體而言，台灣塔不是一個單一功能的公共建築，它也是先進並且將是擁有教育研
究和學習等多功能複合性設施。除提供民眾觀景及其相關的休閒娛樂機能外，它將
是一個不斷前進的有機體。
它是探索能源的有機實驗研究室。

WHAT CAN BE PROPOSED IN THE SEARCH FOR ENERGY TECHNIQUES
Such a tower must be
IMMEDIATE, ACCESSIBLE, EXCITING
and contain a range of ‘observables’ and attractions for differing strands of the public -
as well as facilities for serious research and study
Overall it is not a simple totem but A CONSTANTLY ONGOING ORGANISM
IT IS A LIVING LABORTATORY OF ENERGY RESEARCH

Crab Studio簡介
Crab Studio是由彼得‧庫克爵士，以及加文‧羅伯漢建築師在倫敦成立的一個與眾不同的事務所-
我們擁有兼具實驗性及藝術性的精神：在CRAB建築師事務所裡，所有的形態、技術及材料的整合都不會在未經深入探討之前被否決。
因此，台中塔的設計被視為特別具刺激性的挑戰，我們試圖導引設計方向，使其不致於僅被設計為一座空泛的紀念塔：取而代之地，我們以延續性且具機能性之設計手法創造出一個真正擁抱人們的環境。
成立於2006年，目前本所即將完成座落於西班牙馬德里一區約100個單元之9樓住宅，其下設有商店及社區空間。維也納經濟大學的新法學院、行政中心大廈，以及澳洲邦德大學建築學院之興建工程亦將陸續展開。
我們也同時設計開發大學內之傢俱設施、展館、販售亭及酒吧等–所有的項目均被視為機會，以探索大家所熟悉的‘文雅現代主義’在建築上之不同可能性。
眾所周知日前我們的作品台中塔榮獲‘設計概念國際競圖’第二名：新塔即針對類似主題做更全面性的探討。

Crab Studio
An Introduction to a Different kind of Studio
The London Practice of Sir Peter Cook and Gavin Robotham.
We have an experimental and artisanal attitude of mind : at CRAB Studio no configuration or combination of techniques or materials is creatively rejected without investigation.
The Taichung Tower is therefore seen as a particularly juicy challenge where the CRAB approach leads to something much more than an empty monument : instead a continual and operational instrument in which the environment really grows around you.
Currently the Studio : which was established in 2006 : is completing a block of 100 housing units in Madrid on nine floors with shops and a sculpted community area beneath. Its Law Faculty and Central administration buildings for the Vienna Economics University are rising out of the ground and its Architecture School for Bond University in Australia is about to start construction.
Alongside we are developing university furniture, pavilions, kiosks, bars etc- all treated equally as opportunities to explore alternatives to the architecture of ‘polite modernism’ with which everyone is familiar. Our previous project for the ‘Ideas Competition’ of the Taichung Tower is well known as it gained 2nd Prize : the new tower is a more thorough exploration of similar themes.

Introduction to Tai Architect & Associates
Established in 1991, Tai Architect and Associates is a mid-sized full-service architectural firm headed by Daniel Tai. The firm has completed such award-winning and internationally recognized projects as the Wagor Bilingual Elementary School, and the Nantou Forestry Bureau. In 2001, working in collaboration with the Australian firm of Kerry Hill and Associates, the firm completed the luxury hotel, The Lalu, located on the shores of Sun Moon Lake at the site of the former compound of Chang Kai Shek. This project has been represented in numerous publications and was awarded the Taiwan Architectural Award and the Far Eastern Outstanding Architectural Award.
Philosophy
The firm’s design philosophy is based on a continuous exploration of the sensory aspects of space through simple and powerful forms: to reflect the cultural and geographical context of a site while facilitating efficient, effective and flexible usability: to produce sustainable architecture that reflects the contemporary urban environment while anticipating the future. Working closely with clients, and with engineering, consulting and building professional, the firm maintains open lines of communication and a meticulous attention to detail throughout all stages of the development and the implementation of a project.
