設計概念 Design Concepts
生態之橋
以金門島自身豐富的歷史與文化，及其與自然的連結共構為發想，我們提出一建築形式，可交織碼頭遊客中心營運與公共工園同步規劃，形成獨特的廊道與常態的建築形體，以服務金門當地居民及遊客。
概念涵蓋景觀與建築主體，生態之橋尋求結合水岸公園與碼頭客運中心建築的設計形式，為居民與遊客創造了新型獨特的「公園建築」，以動態的通廊建築形式，將室外公園拉入室內並塑造全景視覺空間效果。
本 案的形式是將島嶼本身傳統的道路系統與海岸的幹道交織，把客運中心拉高於地面層，在總體規劃上提供視覺穿透以及對海岸精神性的軸線。抬高後的建築主體，有 利於客運中心乘客欣賞量體的起伏摺皺呼應金門既有地貌。遊客可從屋頂花園觀看，或是沿著北側的玻璃步道漫步。管制塔台座落於建築主體制高點，提供視覺上回 看金門島蔥鬱的景觀樣貌。
本案利用摺疊三角平面分格系統，交織公共公園與其上的客運中心，這些摺疊的三角平面可以提供許多導入自然日照、 呈現流暢的動線系統、整合綠地公園與建築空間的機會。新的公園將提供居民與遊客許多設施，包含蘭花花園、李樹果園、噴泉水景、漁人碼頭眺望台、靜態冥想花 園、展演座位區、市集活動空間、棚架遮蔭花園、賞鳥亭、與本島名勝眺望台。建築內部的綠色空間將會成為行人活動的背景，與忙碌旅客的視覺休憩的據點。
生態之橋寓文化傳承於實際機能運轉上。金門島以成為台灣第六個，且是第一個以歷史保存與文化古蹟為主題的國家公園，此案成功的關鍵在於，能夠容納每日數以千計的遊客到訪參觀，同時仍能維持優雅的水岸空間，其建築本體期望成為金門島的縮影，為其注入自然與文化。
生 態之橋可視為島上的門戶園道，也可以視為觀光據點。其設計整合大街與碼頭候船室分別的空間需求形式，形成鮮明而獨特的客運中心形體，為金門打造一個結合歷 史、自然與商業的前瞻性客運中心。新型塑的公共空間可以供旅客在候船時休憩，遊客也可發掘島上蔥鬱的景緻，居民也可體驗不同的休閒與商業空間。
Botanical Bridge
Conceptualized as both a landscape and a building, the Botanical Bridge seeks to combine the waterfront park and the ferry terminal building. This creates a new unique parkscape for the travelers and residents of Kinmen and informs a dynamic terminal building with panoramic views of the outside park punctuating the space.
The project’s form weaves together the island’s intersecting cultural axis and coastal parkways. Lifting the passenger service center above the ground plane provides clear views from masterplan spiritual axis to the sea. The elevated building then has a prominent presence for inbound ferry passengers with its peaks and folds undulating in harmony with the island’s terrain. Visitors are allowed views from the rooftop park and the glass promenade running along the north face of the building. Passengers are provided sweeping views from waiting lounges, shopping and restaurants. The administration tower, at a slightly higher vantage point affords views back towards Kinmen Island’s lush landscape.
The project utilizes a grid of folded triangular planes to weave the public park through and above the passenger service terminal. The folding planes create ideal opportunities for natural daylighting, smooth circulation flows, and the integration of natural park space throughout the building. The new park will house a number of amenities for travelers and residents, including: orchid gardens, plum tree orchards, cascading water features, fishing pier overlooks, meditation gardens, performance seating, event space, trellis shade gardens, bird watching, and island scenic overlooks. Inside the building, the green space will become a backdrop for passenger activities and a visual respite for busy travelers.
The Botanical Bridges melds functional performance with cultural heritage. As Kinmen Island has become Taiwan’s 6th national park, and the first with the theme of historic preservation and cultural assets, the success of this project relies on the its ability to accommodate thousands of daily passenger visits and still maintain a graceful presence on the island’s waterfront. The building is seen as a microcosm of Kinmen Islands greater aspirations to infuse nature and culture.
The Botanical Bridge serves as a gateway and a destination. Integrating the parkway into the form of the ferry terminal creates a distinct typology of terminal building uniquely suited to Kinmen’s future as hub at the intersection of history, nature and commerce. This new form of public space can be enjoyed by traveler’s waiting for the next ferry, tourists exploring the island lush scenery, and residents looking for new spaces of leisure and commerce.

Since its foundation in August 1990, EDS has completed numerous major planning and design projects at home and abroad. In 2003, EDS International Inc. (Suzhou) was established in Suzhou, China to play an active role in the field of planning, architectural and landscape design in Chinese cities.
